Obituary for Walter James DEAR

DEAR: Walter James - passed away peacefully in Waterloo, Ontario on October 29, 2022 at the age of 95. He was born in Toronto in 1927, and was the youngest of three children. As a child he spent his life in Toronto, Hamilton and Vinemount.

Walter worked 25 years in the Royal Canadian Air Force and 16 years as a Civil Servant. As a member of the RCAF, and while stationed in Metz, France, he met Jeanne Fousse. They married in 1956. Walter, Jeanne, and their daughter Josette, then made a life back in Canada. Walter and Jeanne had two more children in the Ottawa area, a son, Jean-Paul and a daughter, Jennifer.

Walter enjoyed his interesting and fulfilling career with the RCAF. In 1951, he was part of the aircrew that transported Princess Elizabeth and Prince Phillip during their first official visit to Canada. His stories filled us with awe and the usual laughter. He was always eager to reminisce and we were eager listeners.

Walter and Jeanne spent their married lives in the Ottawa area, France, Trenton and Tavistock. While in Tavistock, Walter volunteered his time with the Men’s Club. He was active in many community fundraisers including the Santa Claus parade, the sauerkraut dinner and the fish fry. In 2011, the Township of East Zorra-Tavistock honoured him with the Senior of the Year Award.

Walter was predeceased by his wife Jeanne and his two sisters, Helen and Susan.

Walter is survived by: three children: Josette (Joe), Jean-Paul (Kimberley), Jennifer (Chris); 10 grandchildren: Sonia, Andrew (Carley), John (Lisa), Jesse, Carly, Rob (Jana), Sean (Sarah), Jeffrey (Rachelle), Michele (John), Kelly (Daniel); and 14 great-grandchildren: Elara, Kiera, Hannah, Summer, Scotland, Nelson, Isabella, Sophia, Aliyah, Mark, Sydney, Austin, Arlo, and Loic. Family living in France: Joëlle, Guy, Martine, Hervé and their families.

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 PM, November 19, 2022, in the West Room of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tavistock, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to “Voice for Children Who Are Hard of Hearing” at www.voicefordeafkids.com
