Obituary for Hedwig Hildegard NEGRAZIS (Schindler)


With great sadness the family of Hedwig Hildegard (Schindler) Negrazis announce her peaceful passing, in her 85th year on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Spruce Lodge, Stratford, Ontario.

She will be remembered and missed by her husband of 65 years, Ewalt and children Alma (Steve 2021) Akins, Gerhard (Sherri) Negrazis, Sandra Lendvay (Dave Taylor), Nancy (Brent) Baker. Forever remembered by her eleven grand children and fourteen great grand children. Lovingly remembered by her sisters Alma (Manfred 2015) Kanzenbach, Gertrud (Adam 1981) Lotz, and Ursula (Alfred 2013) Betke. Hedwig will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Predeceased by her loving parents Joseph and Pauline (Arndt) Schindler.

Hedwig immigrated to Canada in August 1957 and met her husband, whom she married at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tavistock on October 19, 1957. They raised their children on a dairy farm located on Pork Road outside of Tavistock. They later retired in 1998 to Stratford. Hedwig found comfort in knitting and gardening. When she was able, she loved to have family gatherings and was known for her home-made shish kabobs, perogies, sauerkraut and apple fritters.

The family would like to thank the staff at Spruce Lodge for the care and compassion provided to Hedwig during her time there.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Hedwig’s life at Francis Funeral Home, 77 Woodstock Street North, Tavistock. Visitation at Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 from 1pm to 4pm. Funeral service to be held at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2210 Perth Line 29, Tavistock on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at 2pm, with visitation at 1pm in the west room of the church prior to the service. Rev. Hans J. W. Borch will be officiating. Interment will be at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery.
