Obituary for Geoline Ferne BENDER (Brenneman)

BENDER, Geoline Ferne - It is with sadness, but gratitude for a life well-lived, that we announce the passing of Geoline Bender, surrounded by family, at the Maples Home for Seniors, Tavistock on Sunday August 13, 2023 at the age of 91.

Born on October 16, 1931 in South Easthope Township, she was the daughter of the late Salome (Erb) and Daniel Brenneman.

She married Nelson Bender on June 6, 1951 and together they shared over 30 years of life together until his sudden passing on January 21, 1982. Dear sister of Bruce and Mary Brenneman. Much loved aunt of Richard & Grace Bender, Jim Bender & Sonya Schwartzentruber, Mary Ann Bender, Linda & Bill Schumm, Brad & Michelle Brenneman, Karen & Larry Frey, Darrell Brenneman & Marsha Kritzer, Daphne Neeb, Roger & Rosanne Bender, Brian & Marlene Bender, Bruce & Debbie Bender and Paul Bender & Deb Bell. She is also fondly remembered by many great and great/great nieces and nephews as well as many others who lovingly called her Aunt Geoline.

Predeceased by sister Beatrice (Ivan) Bender, brothers Lester and Roland Brenneman, brothers-in law Delton (Lavelle) Bender and Armand (Katie) Bender, nephew Larry Bender.

Geoline was an active member of the East Zorra Mennonite Church; her faith family was very important to her. She is remembered as hard-working - picking apples, helping Nelson on the farm, baking for the Stratford Market and then many years as a Health Care Aide at the Maples. After her retirement, she continued as a very active volunteer at the Maples until well into her 80’s. She was known far and wide for her amazing butter tarts. Perhaps she found most contentment puttering around in her flower beds where her love of flowers was self-evident. She will be remembered for her compassionate heart, love of children and their love of her, hand-written notes, sense of humour, and her frequent and distinctive laugh.

Family and friends will be received at the Francis Funeral Home, Tavistock on Saturday August 19th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm. Burial will take place on Sunday August 20, 2023 at the East Zorra Mennonite Church Cemetery, 16th Line, at 1:30pm with a memorial service to follow at 2pm in East Zorra Mennonite Church.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to East Zorra Mennonite Church 16th line, the Mennonite Central Committee or Diabetes Canada would be appreciated and may be made through the Francis Funeral Home by calling 519-655-2431. Personal condolences can be posted at
