Obituary for Elda WAGLER (Schlegel)

WAGLER, Elda - passed away peacefully on November 28, 2022 at the age of 89.

Beloved wife of Sam Wagler with whom she shared 66 years of loving dedicated married life.
Elda’s immediate and extended family were the cornerstones of her life.

She will be deeply missed by Sam, their 4 children, 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Jim and Keelee Wagler (Josh, Tori, Hallie & Beckett. Drew, Lisa & Dawson. Bryn. Brittany, Steve, Archer and Avery. Chelsey). Merle and Bill Seegmiller (Matthew, Jordanne & Lenny. Erin & Dan) Faye (Kevin deceased 2019) Butters (Patrick & Lindsay. Christopher & Jen. Emma.) Roger and Shay (McGreggor, Kirkland). Also fondly remembered by Deb Wagler.

Elda was predeceased by her parents Ezra and Violet Zehr/Schlegel and in-laws Sam and Emma Jutzi/Wagler. Also predeceased by her sister Norma Ruby and in-laws, Emerson and Magdalene Wagler, Wilmer and Katie Wagler, Alvin Gingerich, Laverne Wagler.

She will be lovingly remembered by her sisters Velma Schlegel, Ada and Howard Gerber and brother Mervin and Karen Schlegel. Also remembered by in-laws Raymond Ruby, Bernice Wagler, Ruby Gingerich, Irvine and Carol Wagler.

Elda was a faithful member of Cassel Mennonite Church throughout her life, contributing generously to the life of the church. Elda and Sam worked together on their dairy farm in Oxford County for 39 years, retiring to Tavistock in 1995 and moving to Nithview Home in 2020. She enjoyed volunteering at Nithview and the New Hamburg Thrift store. Her greatest joys came from tending her beautiful gardens, sharing a meal with a full table of family and friends, and spending countless hours crafting beautiful quilts for her community, her children and grandchildren.

Thanks to the staff at Nithview Home for the care provided to Elda and Sam. Also, special thanks to the team at the Freeport Palliative Care Unit for their extraordinary expertise and compassionate care.

Relatives and friends will be received in the Francis Funeral Home, 77 Woodstock Street North, Tavistock on Monday, Dec 5th from 2-4 and 6-9 pm. The funeral service will be held in East Zorra Mennonite Church, 16th line on Tuesday Dec 6, 2022 at 11 am. Pastor Wanda Roth Amstutz will officiate. Interment prior to the service. Reception following.
